How to Grow Clones and Achieve a Successful Harvest
Chemdog gave us his four quick clone-care tips a while back for cannabis growing with clones, and he said give your clone room, light, food, and love. All of that will definitely be important, but here are a few more important things to know about growing cannabis clones at home.
Caring for Your Clones Before Planting
You’ve picked up your precious new clone at the dispensary, so now you’re tasked with getting this little gal home safely. When you purchase a clone at Canna Provisions, rest assured that the little plant will be healthy and well-packaged. However, the responsibility of keeping the clone happy until planting requires:
- A careful transport from the dispensary to home (avoid leaving the clone in a hot vehicle for long periods)
- A little water every 2 to 3 days
- Ample indirect sunlight for up to 18 hours a day
How to Plant Clones
It is best to transplant your small clone into a larger pot as soon as possible. Some people start with a smaller pot and replant as the plant grows, but you can also start out with a larger container (a one-gallon one will usually do the trick).
A good potting soil, like Bio365 soil, is a must. To plant your clone, simply dig a hole large enough for the root system of the clone, place the clone in the hole, and cover the area with growing medium to support the plant.
Caring for Your Clone Post-Planting
After planting, your clone needs water, sun, and nutrients. The process can be slightly different depending on whether you are growing indoors or outdoors. Be sure to take a look at our guide for growing plants outdoors at the bottom of this page. In general, your plant will need up to 18 hours of sunlight while in its vegetative state and 12 hours of sunlight when you start flowering naturally or when you want to encourage flowering.
Water as needed to keep the soil moist. Outdoor plants may need daily water, while indoor plants may only need water every few days.
