SUO is the brain child of NY based artist / musician Saara Untracht-Oakner, as her Facebook page tells it. And the “story, names, characters, and incidents portrayed in this production are (mostly) real”.
She has called her recent work “Better Cause Of You” thusly: [Better Cause Of You] was recorded in the dead of winter, when the dream of summer looms at the front of our minds.

Ok, it’s the future. Give us a snapshot of your background as a musician as if you’re bumping into a friend you haven’t seen in 10 years.
Hey! Nice to see you pal! After touring the world with my band BOYTOY from 2013-2018 , I started my own solo project called SUO. I released a full length in summer 2019 and did a Europe tour in February 2020 before the pandemic shut everything down. But I spent a lot of that time writing and creating new songs and recordings. Now I have a killer line up of NY superstars and we play anywhere from a three-piece to a six-piece!
What’s a key track for someone to get into your music? What’s a deep cut for the real fans out there?

Are you a cannabis consumer? If yes, tell me about how/why/when you consume, and how does it influence your music (if at all)?
I love weed! I prefer sativa or a nice hybrid (blue dream!) to keep me productive and creative. I love to take a couple hits of a joint or pipe during the creative process, writing, drawing, painting, I feel like it allows me to access my subconscious more. I don’t need much. Usually a hit or two will keep me going for a few hours every so often!
Biggest influences and how does their influence appear in your art?
Honestly my biggest influences are my friends that create things! It inspires me to be more productive. Playing with musicians like Josephine, Nat Brower and Max Hersh have inspired me to take more interesting and thoughtful turns in my songwriting. Being a fan of your friends is the best!
