Canna Provisions Holyoke for some is the end result of searching “dispensary near me” for legal adult-use anywhere near Chicopee, Northampton, Springfield, and other points in Western Massachusetts.
For others, it’s what they find when they look for multiple award-winning adult-use retail dispensary experiences providing product education and consultative cannabis shopping for those that want it, and a place to just grab high-testing flower or some large-format buds of Smash Hits cannabis. Whatever the reason someone finds themselves at Canna Provisions Holyoke, about 10 minutes off the highway and right on Dwight Street in the historic 150-year-old restored paper mill and former artist community, once inside visitors are presented a feast for the eyes.

iZM PRIZM
YOUR WORK EXPLODES IN COLORS AND PORTRAITURE. TALK ABOUT YOUR INSPIRATIONS.
I take inspiration from everywhere and all around, the things that I see, hear, and influences from music, from the Carpenters to Jay-Z. I take inspiration from beauty that I see, as well as pain – both physical and mental pain of others. And, of course, myself.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PAINTING?
This is only my third year. It started in a very dark nature. I was just using sketch pads with charcoal and cray-pas, and the subject matter was pretty heavy. It evolved into a more colorful and digestible class of art that most anyone can relate to and enjoy, much of which you’ll see at the Holyoke display at Canna Provisions.
WHAT DOES BEING A VISUAL ARTIST IN AMERICA RIGHT NOW MEAN TO YOU? ESPECIALLY ONE BASED IN HOLYOKE’S PROUD PUERTO RICAN COMMUNITY?
Being that I am from Puerto Rican descent, I haven’t seen a lot of people like me in the arts. The Pioneer Valley, and beyond, has [welcomed] me into this culture, as well as local restaurants and other establishments. It’s a great feeling of accomplishment and acceptance.
CAN YOU BREAK DOWN YOUR NAME? WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF IT? IS THE NAME A NOD TO YOUR ARTISTIC STYLE IN SOME WAY?
It started as a joke. I wanted to create my own cult or religion. Think: Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism and Judaism. I figured, why not create iZM, changing the “s” into a “z”, because Erykah Badu’s album called Baduizm did it, and I thought it was a nice way of spelling it. My iZM is my own way of doing things, which carries over to my art. Ironically “-ism’s” definition has to do with a political or artistic movement. However iZm has a definition all of its own…
WHAT DOES HAVING YOUR WORK ON DISPLAY AT A LOCAL ART-FOCUSED ADULT-USE DISPENSARY MEAN FOR YOU?
I want people and Canna Provisions visitors to feel comfortable there and to encourage sales of cannabis, and while there they will see my paintings and my art. People of all walks of life come into [legal] dispensaries. I am grateful for additional avenues to be able to put eyes on my work.
I still want to thank for the people who rooted for me on Hello Holyoke; Aggie Warren, Gina Russo, Pam Rivera, Myrna Abreu, Crystal Colon, Chris Daisy, Mike Griffin and many more.
ART HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN AS MORE ESSENTIAL TO LIFE THAN NOW THANKS TO THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC. WHY IS SUPPORTING LOCAL ARTISTS SO IMPORTANT TO A VIBRANT COMMUNITY?
From my angle, during the pandemic through social media it helped saturate my art and allowed people to take the time to look and acknowledge my work. Honestly, the pandemic helped my art take off tremendously. I’m a local artist. I don’t have a lot of resources or experience, [especially] when I began, but the people of Holyoke helped me get where I am.
